JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police are asking for the public's help identifying a man accused of sexually battery on the city's Westside in July.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Monday released a sketch of the man who police said they're looking for.
Police said it happened July 7 in the area of Joloru Drive.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the victim accepted a ride from the man near Jammes Road and San Juan Avenue, and then the victim was driven to Joloru Drive, where the man sexually battered the victim inside a white Buick sedan.
Police said the car has tan interior, stock wheels and headlights that are bright and bluish.
The man sought is described as a black male, in his early- to mid-30s, having a short beard attached to side burns, a chunky build, low haircut and dark skin, according to police.
He was reportedly wearing blue swimming trunks, white socks and "slides."
Many residents, including Robert Cheppell, told News4Jax that they'll be on high-alert. Cheppell said the incident raises major concerns.
"I think in this day and age, it might not be prudent to take a ride from anybody. But that being said, it still doesn't call for her being a victim to have maliciousness of this nature," Cheppell said. "I would suspect that (police) will (find him). We have a pretty good law enforcement in Jacksonville."
Anyone who recognizes the man or has any information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward of up to $3,000, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
