Robber, getaway driver got away with cash, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have arrested a man accused of pulling a gun and robbing the SunTrust Bank on Baymeadows Road last Tuesday.

Kevin Williams, 53, is accused of approaching a teller during the lunch hour, displaying a firearm and demanding cash. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said he was last seen getting into the passenger side of a vehicle that drove away.

No one was injured.

Williams is charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

This was the seventh bank robbery or attempted bank robbery of the year. The others were:

Feb. 8: An unarmed man attempted to rob a Wells Fargo on Edgewood Avenue West, but fled without any money after the teller said he would have to fill out a withdrawal slip.

Feb. 8: An unarmed man walked into a Wells Fargo on Philips Highway, demanded and was given cash, then ran away.

March 9: A SunTrust Bank on St. Augustine Road was robbed by a  man who gave the teller a note. No weapon was seen.

March 18: A Fifth Third Bank on San Jose Boulevard was robbed by a short, black man wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat. He gave a note to a teller, and no weapon was seen.

March 29: A man attempted to rob a Regions Bank on St. Augustine Road. He gave a teller a note, but left without any money after she asked him to take off his hat.

June 15: A Chase Bank on San Jose Boulevard was robbed when a man, dressed all in dark clothing and wearing a long dark wig and big black sunglasses, pointed a small silver handgun at tellers and demanded money. He ran away.
