“It will bring a lot of energy to The District and fill a very nice niche Downtown," said Michael Munz, a partner in The District. "It’s really going to bring a coolness to the area and fit in well with The District’s theme of health, wellness and multi-generational living."

The District is being built on the site of the former Southside Generating Station property on the banks of the St Johns River.

Developers would also like to lure a movie theater and supermarket.  Plans call for development of residential housing, commercial business a marina with a riverfront park.

The state of Florida issued what they call a Notice of Intent to Issue a Site Rehabilitation Completion Order, which basically means that the project is good to move forward and that the state regulators are satisfied with the clean-up of the site.

"This is also a big milestone for the project,” Munz said.

The developer hopes to close on the property by the “end of the year,” according to Munz.
