JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Victims' rights have been the center of the Trayvon Martin case and victims' rights were the center of attention Monday at City Hall kicking off a week of events honoring crime victims.

State Attorney Angela Corey, special prosecutor in the Martin case, joined members of law enforcement and advocacy groups at a ceremony beginning Victims' Rights Week.

Corey could not talk about the Martin case, but others praised her for her prosecution of murders in the Jacksonville area.

Among those who spoke at Monday's event was Lysa Telzer, mother-in-law of Renie Telzer-Bain, who was killed in 2009. Her killer is now on death row.

"Crime has no boundaries, ladies and gentlemen, so please try and keep yourself, your family and your friends as safe as possible," Telzer said. "Tell them every day that you love them."

Duval County:

• TUESDAY: Candlelight Vigil at 6 p.m. in Hemming Plaza
  
• WEDNESDAY: Victims' Rights Week awards luncheon from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Jacksonville Main Library
  
• THURSDAY: Crime Prevention seminar: Safety for Seniors from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Oceanway Senior Center
  
• FRIDAY: ABC's of Representing Victims (legal seminar) from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Florida Coastal School of Law
  

Clay County:

• TUESDAY: Self- defense class from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Orange Park Substation (Blanding Blvd.)
  
• WEDNESDAY: Crime Victims' Rights Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Orange Park City Hall Pavilion
  

Nassau County:

• TUESDAY – FRIDAY: Victim information table in the main lobby of the Courthouse. The clothes line project will also be on display in the Courthouse. The project consists of artwork from victims who visited Micah's Place.
