Lake City officer arrests teen with stolen merchandise

LAKE CITY, Fla. - A 17-year-old without a shirt wearing a backpack and carrying a box on a Lake City street at 2:10 a.m. Friday has been charged with four counts of burglary.

According to the Lake City Police Department, Austin Roberts was walking north on Ermine Street and sweating profusely when Officer I. Useche drove up to him. Roberts agreed to allow his search and box to be searched. Police said the officer found three GPS units, three cellphones, three knifes, and XM radio and a flashlight.

Asked where he got all of the electronic equipment, Roberts admitted he stole it from unlocked vehicles, police said.

Roberts was arrested and booked into the Columbia County jail and the officer returned the stolen property to three different property owners that could be located.
