JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – They arrived to school with their backpacks and buckets Thursday at Atlantic Beach Elementary School.
Seventy students ranging from third to fifth grades used those buckets to fill with water and ice. They took the Ice Bucket Challenge after school.
It was a lesson about ALS and also about being part of a movement to raise awareness about the life-ending condition.
The 8-, 9- and 10-year-olds are members of a club created by the NFL called Fuel Up To Play 60. It teaches them about healthy eating and encourages them to get 60 minutes of exercise every day.
They especially enjoyed helping their coach take the Ice Bucket Challenge. Coach Cater said he will donate $100 to ALS.
The students nominated San Pablo Elementary School and its P.E. coach.
