GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. - Clay County Animal Care and Control says one of six horses seized on Friday had to be euthanized, but the other five are expected to survive.

A veterinarian says each of the animals was between 100 and 300 pounds underweight when they were taken from property owned by Deanna Biscardi, 43, of Keystone Heights.

Investigators said they found little food or water on the property off County Road 315 in southwest Clay County.

Biscardi (pictured) was arrested and charged with eight counts of animal cruelty.

Animal Control will attempt to return the other five horses to normal weight and health.

Two other horses were returned to a previous owner, who is handling their care.

Clay County officials said they have been aware of the problem since October and Biscardi was given several warnings.

Bond of $20,000 was set for Biscardi -- $2,500 per horse.
