Man accused of threatening to kill Baker County sheriff, judge

MACCLENNY, Fla. – A Baker County man was arrested after deputies said he threatened to kill Sheriff Joey Dobson and County Judge Joey Williams.

Investigators said Oren McDermitt threatened to shoot Dobson (pictured below) and Williams after the arrest Thursday night of his son, Russell McDermitt, on a charge of domestic battery on his pregnant girlfriend.

Dobson said deputies have had issues with the McDermitts for years, and when Oren McDermitt learned of his son's arrest, he told a youth pastor at New Life Church that he would shoot both Dobson and Williams.

Oren McDermitt is charged with two counts of threatening to kill public officials, a felony. He was being held without bond pending first appearance Saturday.

Meanwhile, Russell McDermitt was re-arrested Friday for violating the conditions of his release on bond. Dobson said he returned to the girlfriend's home armed with a handgun.
