FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. - A 24-year-old man convicted of first-degree murder in the death of a 58-year-old retired school teacher was sentenced Thursday.

Quritus Lowe II was sentenced to two life sentences, one for murder and one for burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, plus 30 years in prison for robbery with a weapon in the killing of Myrtle McKinney four years ago in Palatka.

On Christmas Day in 2007, McKinney's nephew went to check on his aunt, but what he found was a crime scene. McKinney was found bound, gagged, blindfolded and beaten to death in her own apartment.

McKinney was last seen by a neighbor three days prior.

Melissa Watson, Gytonia Cheek and Barbara Mundy were also charged in connection with McKinney's death; Mundy testified in Lowe's trial. Cheek is scheduled for trial on Jan. 23 and the other co-defendants have yet to be scheduled for trial.
