Man who shot soldier to death gets life in prison

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A 29-year-old man accused in the fatal shooting of a Jacksonville soldier outside a Colorado Springs nightclub last summer was convicted of first-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Spencer shot 22-year-old Army Spc. Deangelo Brown during an fight outside the Circa Nightclub on Aug. 18.

An El Paso County jury convicted Larry Spencer Jr. on Friday and he was immediately sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Brown served in the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and worked in food service, and was based out of Fort Carson.

The Forrest High School graduate leaves behind seven brothers and sisters.  Brown's father said his son had recently been promoted and approved to transfer to Fort Stewart in Savannah to be closer to family.
