Charges pending against driver who turned left in front of motorcycle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – When a pickup truck turned into the path of a motorcycle Friday night on U.S. 1, the crash ejected the rider onto the highway, where he and the motorcycle were hit by several cars, according to the Florida Highway Patrol

Troopers say a southbound Chevrolet pickup driven by 68-year-old Trevor Mair about 8:15 p.m. turned across the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 toward the entrance to Interstate 95 when it was struck by the northbound motorcycle ridden by 26-year-old Norman Spaulding.

The Honda motorcycle struck the pickup that turned in front of it, ejecting Spauling onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 1, where he and his motorcycle were struck by several vehicles, according the the FHP report.

Spaulding was pronounced dead at the scene.  Mair was not injured.

Troopers say four other crashes occurred as a result of the initial crash. According to the report, charges are pending.
