Police: 19-year-old was killer in murder-suicide

Police suspect murder-suicide in death of 20-year-old USF student

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has identified 19-year-old Jamel Bowman as the person who killed 20-year-old Lauren Allen at her Southside home Friday afternoon, then killed himself.

Authorities said Allen's mother arrived home Friday evening to find the woman and a male friend dead in her home in the 13600 block of Danhurst Way in the Covington Creek neighborhood.

Police said they found a gun in the home, but they said Allen was not shot.

"It is still very early on, but all indications seem to point to murder-suicide. We have quite a bit more evidence to recover and analyze and make a final determination," JSO Sgt. Jay Farhat said late Friday.

The deaths would mark the sixth murder-suicide in Duval County this year, as well as the 10th such event in Duval's surrounding counties this year.

Allen (pictured right), had graduated from Stanton College Prep last year and was attending the University of South Florida.

Channel 4 learned that Bowman lived at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center and was a friend of the family.
