LAKE CITY, Fla. - Police in Lake City have arrested a 20-year-old man they said sold rare coins that were stolen in a car burglary several weeks ago.

Damien Morgan was arrested Monday after investigators contacted local gold, silver and coin dealers and tracked him down, police said.

They said the rare coins that were found at one of the coin dealer stores were those belonging to the victim.

Morgan was charged with burglary, larceny, dealing in stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility with bail set at $50,000.

Police said several other coins have been recovered in locations frequented by Morgan, and their investigation is ongoing. Investigators said Morgan made several recent trips to Jacksonville and Gainesville and returned with large sums of cash. They said that in the transactions in Lake City, he used a false name of Doricko Simmons.

Any gold, silver or rare coin dealer in the area is asked to call Investigator Tammy Cox at 386-758-5471 if they feel this same suspect has come into their store with any rare coins to sell within the last week.
