JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police have arrested a 40-year-old man who they said shined a laser into a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office helicopter four times, blinding the pilots.

Tyler Pennywitt was arrested and charged with misuse of a laser device on an aircraft, a felony.

Police said the JSO Air Unit was flying Monday night when the laser was shined at them. They said this was an ongoing problem in the area.

The JSO pilots were able to identify the home from where the laser was being pointed, police said.

Police said they knocked on the door and made contact with Pennywitt's wife, who said her husband owned a laser.

Police said Pennywitt told them he has pointed the laser at various aircraft more than a dozen times. The laser was found on Pennywitt's bedside dresser, police said.

Pennywitt was taken to jail.
