Woman, 48, hit by car, killed in Keystone Heights

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. - A 48-year-old Keystone Heights woman was struck by a car and killed Friday night while walking along County Road 315C, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said a car heading north in the 6700 block hit Christine Hengl just before 8 p.m.

Investigators said Hengl was walking on the roadway. They said she was wearing dark clothing in an area without street lights, and poor visibility appears to be the main factor in the crash.

Deputies said neither speed nor alcohol use are suspected for the driver, 29-year-old Stephanie Wainwright, of Middleburg.

Witnesses told deputies Hengl was walking home from a local bar when the accident happened.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, deputies said.
