JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A woman police say was shot Thursday by her husband who went on to kill himself at their Oceanway home afternoon has died.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, 43-year-old Monica Griffin died as a result of her gunshot wound at the couple's home the 3400 block of Hickory Landing Court.

Police say arriving officers found 44-year-old Robert Griffin dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Investigators say he shot his wife during an argument.

The married couple's 19-year-old son, Dylan, told Channel 4 he lived with his parents at the home and never imagined something like this happening.

"Basically, I was in the room. All I heard was my mom yelling for me, and I have bad stomach pains, so I was just in the bed and all I heard was 'bang bang' and I didn't think nothing of it," Dylan said. "Then all I heard was silence, and I went in there and just saw them laying on the ground knocked out."

After being questioned by investigators, Dylan was joined other family members checking on his mother at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

"They argued, but it's never violence or anything," Dylan said. "I never saw it coming."

According to the Duval County Clerk of Courts website, the Griffins had divorced in 2009.

The shootings are something people living on Hickory Landing Court say they've never experienced.

Neighbor Bud Wakeajm said the couple had been living together and had "been back for quite a while now."
