JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police say a wrong-way driver caused an accident that seriously injured two people and shut down part of Hodges Boulevard from the Woods to Atlantic Boulevard on Monday night.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a Chevrolet pickup truck involved in the accident was involved in a previous accident on Atlantic Boulevard at Hodges.

The driver of the pickup decided to flee the crash, started driving at a high rate of speed up Hodges, lost control and crossed over the northbound side of the road, said police.

Afterwards, police said the driver went off the road, hit trees and landed near the apartment complex at 2001 Hodges Boulevard.

One man was ejected from the vehicle. Police said the female in the vehicle was trapped inside the vehicle when help arrived.

Police said the man was life-flighted in critical condition. The woman was transported by ambulance in serious condition.

Investigators have not released the names or ages of those in the truck or information about who was driving.
