Mickler's Landing Beachfront Park closing temporarily

Park will be used as staging area for beach restoration

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Sunday is the last day for beachgoers to enjoy Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park for a while. The beach access point is closing intermittently through the spring to accommodate a staging area for Hurricane Irma restoration.

Penny Hunglar and Carolyn Dayton said Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park is one of their favorite spots.

“It's the sharks' teeth,” Hunglar said. “They are just in abundance. We love the free parking, the beach access, sharks' teeth, and it's close to where we live and it's not as crowded.”

Unfortunately, Hunglar and Dayton will have to put their shark teeth hunting on hold for a little while because the beachfront park will be temporarily closed while that part of the beach and parking lot is used as a staging area for beach restoration.

Heavy equipment that could be a danger to the public will be on the beach until restoration is complete.

Surfer John Linebaugh said he don't want to see Mickler's Landing shut down, but understands the reason behind it.

“You know, it's a little bit of a nuisance, but, I mean, we really need to get the beaches back to the way they should be,” Linebaugh said.

“A little sad because they are going to close, but we understand. I mean, they've got to clean the sand and dunes and renourish it,” Dayton said.
