Salute to Veterans 5K: Running with Hometown Heroes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Sunday before Veteran’s Day marks the 6th Annual Salute to Veterans 5k Race, to celebrate and honor U.S. military units and veterans. It is one of the largest 5Ks in Jacksonville.

The race, presented by Chase, will kick off at 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5. beginning at the Riverside Arts Market. Active military and veterans are encouraged to participate. Pre-race ceremonies and singing of the five military service songs will start at 7:45 a.m.

Last year’s addition of the Thank Our Heroes -- Patriotic Paws Parade with K9s For Warriors was a great success. Again this year, participants can dress their dogs in patriotic costumes and walk or run for prizes. The Patriotic Paws Parade will start at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the events will benefit both The Jacksonville Historic Naval Ship Association, which is behind the USS Adams Museum that is scheduled to open Spring 2018 and will be Florida’s first and only naval warship museum, and K9s For Warriors.
