JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The mother of a fallen Navy SEAL is trying to change children’s lives through a book she wrote in her son’s honor.

Krista Keating-Joseph said she was inspired to write her children’s picture book “Big-Hearted Charlie Runs the Mile,” after hearing a retired SEAL speak about her son, Charles “Charlie” Keating IV, 31, to a group of children at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Keating-Joseph published her book about an undersized track star who becomes a Navy SEAL a year later. She hopes that her book can help children grow up to be like her son.

Keating-Joseph said writing the book was a way for her to get through the grieving process of losing her son.
A senior U.S. military officer said Keating was part of a quick reaction force that moved in to help American military advisers who came under ISIS attack on May 2, 2016.

The officer said Keating was shot during a gun battle that involved more than 100 enemy fighters.

He lived in Arizona with his wife and her family and was a graduate of Phoenix's Arcadia High School.
