It's summer! Here's what you need to know

'The Morning Show' tells you about travel, boating, fashion

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. - Summer is here. The surf is up, and on Friday, News4Jax kicked off summer on "The Morning Show" from the Lemon Bar in Neptune Beach, Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine and Centre Street in Fernandina Beach.

Now, summer means travel, and if you're flying somewhere, News4Jax showed you how to avoid the long lines at security.

It's called Transportation Security Administration Precheck. It's been around since 2011, yet a new poll finds most Americans don't understand it.

"The last thing you want to do is wait in a line," said Leigh Bryan, of Avondale Travel. "With TSA Precheck, you literally zip right through a lot of times. There is no line."

Summer also means boating, and every boater knows there's a chance of being stranded by either running out of gas, having a mechanical issue or getting stuck on a sand bar. The folks from Sea Tow Jacksonville offered this advice.

"Well, the best advice for stranded boaters is to have a VHF radio on their boat, that way they can contact either the Coast Guard or commercial systems that come in the system," said Capt. Mike Haas, of Sea Tow. "Cellphones are good, too, if you're inland, but a lot of times if you're too far off shore or you're in some back creek somewhere you don't have cell service."

Finally, when it comes to summer fashion, the folks at Aqua East Surf Shop had you covered with some of the Sharks cheerleaders and others strutting the latest beachside fashions to keep you cool and comfortable.

Sure the first official day of summer is Saturday, but why wait to start celebrating? It's Florida and it's summer almost year-round.
