JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A police cruiser struck a car at the intersection of Mayport Road and State Road A1A just after 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the officer was going 30-45 mph on State Road A1A in the Mayport area when a vehicle on Wonderwood Drive pulled out in front of the police car.

The cruiser had extensive damage to the front end, but the officer was not injured. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

The driver told officers he misjudged the distance between his vehicle and the officer's car. The driver who pulled in front of the officer was cited with failure to yield.

The officer was off duty and was on his way to pick up his personal car at the time of the crash.
