A pit bull who was tied to a pole and set on fire has died after battling his injuries, CBS News reported.
Tommie was found on Sunday, covered in accelerant and intentionally set on fire in Richmond, Virginia, CBS said. An adult male suspect was seen running from the scene.
“I’m so very sorry to say that Tommie just passed away,” said a Facebook post by Richmond Animal Care and Control. “He had just finished having his bandages changed and stopped breathing; his body simply gave out.”
"Needless to say, we are all devastated and angry and sad and terribly disappointed," the post added, according to CBS.
Tommie was treated for burns to over 40 percent of his body and hopes were raised for his eventual recovery.
An initial $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible has grown to $25,000, CBS reported.
