Woman hit crossing Beach Boulevard

Police said driver not at fault

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was struck by a car on Beach Boulevard just before midnight Saturday in the San Nicholas area, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

The woman was walking west near Hamburger Mary's, only blocks from where Beach and Atlantic boulevards split near Camden Avenue, officials said.

The driver, who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators and was not speeding, police said. The victim was wearing dark clothing and not using a crosswalk, police said. 

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was last reported to be in critical condition. 

This year from January to March there were 140 pedestrian-related crashes reported in Jacksonville. In efforts to reduce pedestrian-related crashes police have increased ticketing for people caught jaywalking in the following areas:

  • 103rd Street from Hillman Drive to Blanding Boulevard
  • Atlantic Boulevard from Cortez Road to Arlington Road
  • Kings Road/U.S. 23 from Interstate 95 to North Canal Street
  • Beach Boulevard from St. Johns Bluff Road to South Shores Road

Police are reminding bike riders that lights and reflectors are required when riding at night. 

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.
