Troopers said the UPS truck was traveling east on State Road 222 in the right lane as a pedestrian was walking east on the south sidewalk.

The pedestrian entered the roadway for an unknown reason from the south shoulder in the travel lane that was occupied by the truck. Troopers said the truck's driver was unable to stop, which caused the pedestrian to collide with the right side of the truck.

The truck came to a stop in the right lane of S.R. 222, facing east. Troopers said the pedestrian came to rest in the right lane of the road.

The pedestrian was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition.
