JHS hosts free pet adoption weekend for 'National Clear the Shelters Day'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Humane Society is offering free pet adoptions Saturday and Sunday in honor of "National Clear the Shelters Day."

The promotion is held once a year in the summer as a nation-wide initiative to promote pet adoptions from local animal shelters.

JHS is offering the  free pet adoptions for all pets at its shelter on 8464 Beach Boulevard from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

All cats and dogs are already spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Adoption fees, usually ranging from $50-$125, will be waived for the weekend event. Additional fees, including the city license fee for Duval county residents ages 62 or under, may apply.

“Clear the Shelters is a great way to motivate community members to visit a shelter and adopt a pet,” executive director Denise Deisler said. “JHS is proud to participate and we hope to send many of our pets home with new, loving families this weekend.”
