Rouson says vote on abortion bill was mistake

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, said Thursday he mistakenly voted for a controversial bill that would place additional restrictions on abortion clinics and instructed his staff to change the vote to reflect his opposition.

Rouson was one of two Democrats -- the other was Rep. Daphne Campbell of Miami -- tallied as voting for the bill (HB 1411) on Wednesday.

But Rouson said he opposes the bill and discovered Thursday that he had mistakenly cast a vote for it.

"I support a woman's right to choose," he said.

The change, made Thursday morning, doesn't affect the fate of the bill, which passed the Republican-dominated House by a 76-40 margin Wednesday and is ready to go to Gov. Rick Scott.
