Pro wrestler Rich Swann arrested in Gainesville

Swann faces domestic battery charges

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Professional wrestler Rich Swann was arrested on domestic battery and false imprionsment charges in Gainesville, according to police. Swann performs for World Wrestling Entertainment under the same name.

Police said Swann performed at Eight Seconds in downtown Gainesville Saturday evening. Driving after the performance Swann was critiquing his wife, who is also a pro wrestler when he allegedly became angry. Police said the woman feared the argument was escalating and got out of the car on Hawthorne Road. Swann then stopped the car in the middle of the road, got out and allegedly dragged the woman back into the car.

Witnesses told police they saw Swann put the woman in a headlock while dragging her as she was screaming for help. A second witness told police he saw Swann driving erratically on East University Avenue and saw the woman jump out of the car while it was moving.

Police said the woman told them she was afraid because Swann sometimes has a temper and she was trying to get away before the situation turned violent.

Swann denied all the allegations after being read his Miranda rights. Police said Swann told them he did not grab the woman or physically touch her. Swann said he was trying to get home and his wife had the phone with the GPS on it so he needed her to come with him.

WWE released a statement on its website. "WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest."
