Putnam County Sheriff's Office arrests five on drug charges

Teacher among those arrested

PALATKA, Fla. – The Putnam County Sheriff's Office, along with Palatka police, made five drug arrests Friday.

The first arrest happened on Kennedy Street. The sheriff's office says detectives witnessed Chavarro Thomas, 32, sell narcotics to Suzanne Johnson, a kindergarten teacher in Putnam County.

Police made a traffic stop on Thomas. He tried to run on foot from the officer and K-9 Halo. Thomas suffered minor injuries to the buttocks during the arrest; he received treatment at Putnam County Medical Center before being booked into the jail.

Thomas was charged with sale of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a convenience store, escape, and violation of probation. Thomas is on probation for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In another case, Jeffery Fletcher, 29, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop.

In a separate traffic stop, police arrested  James Stanley, 39, for possession of marijuana and two instruments used to smoke methamphetamine.

Finally, deputies charged Ibra Ward, 25, with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after K-9 Zeke alerted his handler during a traffic stop on Reid Street.

All have bonded out of jail except for Thomas.
