JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fans made their way into RV City Tuesday as they geared up for this weekend’s Florida-Georgia game. The line has been forming for days downtown. The set up and the party officially began Tuesday morning.
Parking passes for the lot are already sold out. Fans need to remember the following rules if they plan on spending the week in RV City. Gates opened Tuesday at 8 a.m. Fans who have reserved a spot in RV City must be checked in by Thursday.
If you are towing a car, that car must be parked in lot G for the week, not in the RV City lot. Those cars must be moved by 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, or they will be towed.
Security will be on hand throughout the week, making sure things stay under control and spots will be assigned once campers enter the lot, on a first-come first-served basis, but saving spaces is not allowed.
RV City is the place to be during the week, with many fans using much of their yearly vacation time to come down here and party together all week long. Fans of both teams get to spend a good time together for a few days before the game starts Saturday afternoon. The party continues again once the game ends.
"This is just an experience. Unbelievable," Georgia fan David Pappas said. "The brotherhood and sisterhood of that we have built here, we've got gator fans, Georgia fans. We've built it together. It's just a great time."
The first person in line last Wednesday, wanting to make sure that he was the first one into the parking lot. He says he was trying to get a spot in the back corner of Alligator Alley. Dozens more RVs filled the lot early Tuesday morning.
Another RVer, Gator fan Peter Wells had been waiting for RV City to open since Friday.
"You've got to set everything up and get everything going. It's a chore, but it's fun," Wells said. "Most of the Gator Alley was in the front of the line so it made it easier this year."
