Traffic signal not operating? Make it a 4-way stop, officials say

Following two deadly crashes reported in Marion County ever since Hurricane Irma swept through the area, traffic officials said Wednesday that they wanted to issue a reminder for all drivers: If a traffic light isn’t working at an intersection, you must treat the situation as a four-way stop.

The system is called “First to stop, first to go.” Each vehicle must stop prior to entering the intersection, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said.

Both of the deadly crashes that took place in the past week were at intersections, where the traffic signals were inoperative, officials said, adding that drivers need to realize the dangers of not stopping.
