Talent show benefits local students

Communities In Schools of Jacksonville helps at-risk students graduate


Local students showcased their talents Thursday evening in an effort to help classmates across the city have a successful future.

Channel 4’s  Vic Micolucci emceed the "Rising Stars" talent show at the Florida Theatre.

Communities In Schools of Jacksonville is the organization behind the show. It's a nonprofit that keeps thousands of at-risk students on track for graduation.

More than 200 people attended to enjoy singing, dancing and musical instruments.

The event featured a cocktail hour, silent auction and the talent show. Event attendees voted for their favorite talent during the show, with the top three acts receiving gift cards.

First place was awarded to the Groove Construction Drum Line from S.A. Hull Elementary. 

Mayport Middle Step Team took second place and Gabbi DeJesus from Windy Hill Elementary took third place.

The talent show raised approximately $18,000,  which will be used to provide case management, literacy and after-school programs to Jacksonville schools.
