A small private elementary school and its principal were honored Friday with WJXT and Memorial Hospital's Positively Jax award for June.
Daniel Academy serves students in kindergarten through sixth grade who have academic and behavioral needs -- children who haven't quite fit within a traditional school setting.
"At Daniel Academy, I get help. I just don't get the basics, I get the whole process," student Patrick said.
Principal Kerry Flanagan cares for the children and mission of Daniel Academy deeply.
"Our goals are to continue to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students, build enrollment and to increase awareness that we are a resource for the community," Flanagan said.
According to the school's students and their parents, it's working
"Now I'm making almost straight As," student James said.
