JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Church of Oakland kicked off their 2016 Youth Explosion celebration Tuesday with planned activities that will go until Aug. 14.

This year's celebration will support students and families to be ready for the upcoming school year with the help of multiple sponsors and partners.

“Our partners have been and continue to be very supportive of our efforts and without them we could not take on such a ministry of this magnitude” said Rev. Tavares Parker.

The Youth Explosion Kick-Off started with a student presentation and a backpack giveaway.

Special guests included YMCA summer camp participants and residents from Oakland Terrance and Renaissance Apartments.

On Aug. 6, Youth Explosion will be at Metro Park from 9 a.m. to noon giving away backpacks and school applies along with a parent information information exchange.
