Daryl Walker won a silver medal in goalball at the Rio Paralympic Games

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local Paralympic athlete has arrived back in Jacksonville, where his silver medal is being celebrated.

Daryl Walker plays goalball, a sport designed for athletes who are visually impaired.

Walker started playing the game at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine.

News4Jax spoke with Walker at the airport to congratulate him.

“It's really cool to come back home to the city where I grew up and just feel this love,” Walker said. “Even when I was on the phone with my mom, she would say, 'Hey, did you see the news crew that was here?' And I was like, 'Wait, what?'”

Walker won his silver medal in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
