JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dozens of at-risk students showcased their talents Thursday night at the Florida Theatre for the Rising Stars talent show.
The fundraiser benefits Communities In Schools of Jacksonville, a nonprofit that runs dropout prevention programs.
Channel 4 anchor and reporter Vic Micolucci emceed ,and more than 300 people attended the event, which celebrated the accomplishments of local students who participate in the nonprofit’s case management, after-school and literacy programs.
The nonprofit also honored those in the community who have contributed to the success of the organization over its 27-year history.
The event featured a cocktail hour, silent auction and talent show. Event attendees voted for their favorite talent during the show, with the top three acts receiving awards.
The three winning student acts were:
- First Place: Tre-vaj Cheek, dancer, Mayport Middle School
- Second Place: Impact 8, dance group, Lake Forest Elementary
- Third Place: Daizjah Singletary, singer, Matthew W. Gilbert Middle School
