Man proposes to girlfriend at Jumbo Shrimp game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp home baseball game Thursday night began with an unforgettable proposal for a Baker County couple.

Heather High thought she had won a contest to throw out the first pitch of the game. What she didn't expect was to get two special surprises from important men in her life.

High's father, a veteran, was in catcher's gear at home plate, and immediately following the shock of seeing him, she was pointed to look behind her.

That's where Michael Tekac, also a veteran, was down on one knee to propose to High.

News4Jax was there for the proposal and spoke with Tekac and High afterward.

"I think it turned out perfect," Tekac said.

Tekac was thankful to those who helped him plan the proposal and to the Jumbo Shrimp team.

When asked if High knew what was even happening, she said, "No, I wasn't nervous at all until I saw my dad and then I saw him (Tekac) on his knee."

There were lot of couples at the Baseball Grounds and some of them said a ball game is a romantic date.

That is something High and Tekac agreed with wholeheartedly.

"I already knew that she wanted something big," Tekac said. "So she grew up on a baseball field, so I didn't think of any better place than a baseball field."

High and Tekac got to enjoy a beautiful night of baseball, but this time as a newly-engaged couple.
