Hope at Hand reaches out to people in crisis

WJXT's May 2016 Positively Jax award winner

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Hope at Hand Inc. is a local nonprofit that provides poetry and art therapy to youth and adults living in crisis situations.

Armed with a bag of paper and pencils, the staff at Hope at Hand brings wellness and healing sessions to many facilities in Jacksonville, including the Duval County jail, the Duval Juvenile Justice facility, the Gateway Rehab facility and foster teen moms residing at Buckner Place within Children's Home Society.

Hope at Hand staff recognize that they can't take you out of your current situation, but they can plant a seed of hope and mindfulness to help people in bad situations cope with trauma and crisis.

The work they do is appreciated by those who receive their services.

"It helps me express my emotions and my feelings. It helps just to get everything out on paper; get it out of you," said Jenna, a Hope at Hand participant.

"I have become a lot more brave through this program," participant Ariel said.

"If you've lost hope, this is a good place for you. If you feel lonely, this is a good place. Because we'll all love you until you love yourself," participant Francina said.
