Edward Waters Choir is our team of the week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – All you have to do is walk into the room and spend about 10 seconds with the Edward Waters College Choir to see they're a real team.  Disciplined, talented, dedicated, this group of young men and women even have a creed that guides their team effort.

""We display five principles: Profound scholarship, unwavering commitment, firm discipline, astute musicianship and great respect," said the choir's student leader Mack Anderson, Jr.

"It should be in us really," Matthew Fuller the tenor section leader echoed. "After reciting it over and over you realize it's what you are."

If you listen to those five principles, it's easy to understand how they get so much accomplished.  When you take extremely talented people, give them solid leadership, a goal and a path to get there, they'll do the rest.

"We want to make sure we put our best foot forward at all times, " said soprano section leader Deven Lee. "So all of our class and all of the other students can be proud of the representation that they get."

This team has that common thread of excellence.  They want to excel, to see how good they can be.  It's part of the choir's own DNA.  They hold themselves and each other accountable to be their best, in and out of uniform. "We spend a lot of time together practicing, we go out together, like to the movies, and out to dinner," Bass section leader Devin Bryant explained.

"We lift each other up, it's not a breakdown session," Ebony Jackson the Alto section leader explained. "We always pray together and you know what they say, the family who prays together, stays together."

We heard them at the Jaguars game sing a stirring rendition of the National Anthem and they inspired us to name the Edward Waters College Choir our Team of the Week!
