Yulee edges past West Nassau in overtime

Hornets hold on for 14-13 home field rivalry win

YULEE, Fla. – It was a chilly night for football in Nassau County as Yulee hosted West Nassau in a cross county rivalry.

West Nassau got rolling early. QB Reagan Wright takes the option and goes 70 yards before going out of bounds. That set up Kyle Aikin's touchdown run. 7-0, Warriors.

In the 4th quarter, Austin Wagner helped bring Yulee back. Damonte Barfield takes the handoff and takes it in for the touchdown.

Then on a 2-point conversion, Wagner hits Dalton Bradley. Yulee goes up 14-7.

But there was plenty of time left for West Nassau. Reagan Wright rolls out, then finds Tyler Woodle for the touchdown, and the Warriors were down 1.

The extra point will tie it and send it into overtime, but Yulee comes in and blocks it.

Yulee hanging on for a 14-13 win.

Yulee Head Coach Bobby Ramsay was happy with the way his team stayed in it.

"I'm really proud of my coaching staff for keeping things under control. Our guys fought in the second half and we've lost some games at halftime that have been tight and we didn't come out and make plays in the second half. I'm just really proud of my team. They fought hard."

Yulee ends its season 6-4, 4-3 in District 3-5A, and West Nassau at 4-6 overall, 2-2 in District 3-4A.  With both teams finishing out of the playoffs, for seniors on both teams, this emotional game concludes their high school football careers.
