Yellow Jackets sting Menendez, 37-7
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – St. Augustine quarterback Cole Northrup threw three touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets rolled over visiting Menendez 37-7 on Friday night.
St. Augustine got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-3 late in the first quarter after a 9-yard touchdown run by the Falcons' Halen Steward.
But Menendez (0-2) failed to score again, and the Yellow Jackets (2-0) scored four touchdowns on four third-quarter drives to put the game out of reach.
"We had three or four major defensive penalties. They did a good job on defense, and we had a little bit of trouble moving the ball. But we corrected at half and had a good second half," St. Augustine coach Joey Wiles said.
Northrup's TD passes went to senior Fred Gilliam, junior Brenden Baird and senior Maurice Walden.
Baird also had two big runs in the third quarter to set up touchdown plays.
Patrick Stewart also scored on a 1-yard run for St. Augustine.
On the opening drive, a Northrup throw to senior Xavier Reese set the Yellow Jackets up for a 28-yard Morgan Sefcik field goal.
