GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Clay High's ground game powered the Blue Devils to a 46-6 victory over visiting Westside High in a Class 5A regional quarterfinal playoff game on Friday.
Sophomore Colin Wilson had three rushing touchdowns and senior JT Turner had two for Clay.
"I was happy the way we played on defense. Colin and JT ran the ball well tonight," Clay coach Josh Hoekstra said. "I'm not exactly sure who we will play (next), but right now we're going to enjoy this one and get back to work tomorrow."
Senior Jeremy Peters returned an interception 80 yards for a score, and sophomore Angel Valdes iced the victory with Clay's final score.
Wilson scored on a pair of 51-yard TD runs and also ran one in from 2 yards out. Turner's TD runs were from 34 yards and 54 yards. One of Turner's TD runs was set up by a Clay fumble recovery.
Senior Corteze Davis scored Westside's lone TD with a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.
