Suns beat Marlins 14-8 in exhibition

The Suns scored 9 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to propel them to the win Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With MLB stars like Giancarlo Stanton and Ichiro Suzuki in town to face their minor-league affiliate, it was the guys not in the big leagues yet that made the difference for the Suns on Saturday.

The defending Southern League champs beat their parent club, the Miami Marlins 12-8 on Saturday, sparked by a 9-run 7th inning.  Viosergy Rosa's grand slam sparked the rally after the Suns were down 7-3 going into the inning.

In his return to the Suns, Giancarlo Stanton went 1-for-1 with an RBI Double and a walk in his two at-bats.  Stanton was part of back-to-back Southern League championships in 2009 and 2010 with the Suns and says that those are his fondest memories of his time in Jacksonville.  "Winning is good, rings are good, I'm just fortunate that I was on those teams."

New Suns manager Dave Berg was happy to get to see what will be his team will look like in 2015, "To come out here and see the fans and to play these guys is an awesome opportunity for the players."

This was the final exhibition game for both teams as the Marlins open their season at home against Atlanta on April 6th.  The Suns start their 2015 season with a 20-game homestand starting April 9th against the Jackson Generals.
