Three Gators named to preseason watch list

Hargreaves, Morrison, McGee receive preseason honors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – SEC Media day began on Monday in Hoover, Alabama. Three Gators have been selected to the preseason watch list, for various college football awards.

Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves has racked up several preseason honors. On Monday he was named to the Jim Thorpe Aware preseason watch list. That award recognizes the best defensive back in college football. The junior was previously named to Bronko Nagurski (top defensive player in college football) and the Chuck Bednarik (defensive player of the year) award list. Despite teams intentionally not throwing to his side, Hargreaves picked off six passes and had 24 pass break-ups last season.

Like Hargreaves, linebacker Antonio Morrison has also been named to the preseason Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski watch list. Morrison led the Gators with 101 tackles last season.

Florida tight end Jake McGee has been named to the John Mackey Award preseason list. That award is given to the best tight end in college football. McGee, a senior, is a transfer from Virginia. He led the Cavs in receiving in 2013 with 43 catches for 395 yards.
