Armada FC will face MLS' Philadelphia Union to start 2016 season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Armada FC will kick off 2016 reprising its annual preseason matchup with MLS’ Philadelphia Union at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Community First Park at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The match, presented by Community First Credit Union, marks the head coaching debut of new Armada FC head coach and former U.S. Men’s National Team great Tony Meola.

The Armada took down the Union 3-1 last February at EverBank Field in a picture-perfect resurrection of professional soccer in Jacksonville that included a raucous crowd of 13,934, which set a North American Soccer League preseason attendance record. Forward Alhassane Keita and defender Lucas Trejo were among the goal-scorers in the match.

“I’m looking forward testing ourselves against the Philadelphia Union,” Meola said. “This gives our team the opportunity to play a very well-coached team that, like us, is looking to start their preseason off on the right foot in order to change their fortunes from 2015. Once again, it’s an honor for us to host Jim Curtin and his team in Jacksonville.”

Match day parking will also be available at $10 per car. Season ticket parking is available through the Armada starting at $5 per match.

The Armada FC expects to announce its full preseason schedule in the coming weeks.
