JU hires Ian Shields as new football coach

Jacksonville University has hired Ian Shields as their new football coach News4Jax has learned.

Shields replaces Kerwin Bell, who the school let go Thursday after deciding not to renew his contract.

Shields resigned from Lenoir -Rhyne College (Division 2) last night and said he was leaving to accept a job at an FCS school (formerly Division 1-AA).

Shields was the offensive coordinator and associate head coach at Army before becoming the head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne in 2014.

JU has a press conference scheduled at noon Tuesday to discuss the future of the football program where the Dolphins are expected to introduce Shields as the third football coach in school history.
