Jaquan English takes passion for wrestling to Australia

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – With just a year of experience under his belt Raines High School’s Jaquan English has quickly worked his way into one of the top wrestlers in the entire state. Recently was chosen to represent Florida at the Down Under Sports Tournament in Australia. He never dreamed that his love of wrestling would take him all the way to the other side of the globe.

“Honestly I didn’t believe it,” said English. “I thought somebody was playing a trick on me. I knew I was a decent wrestler but to travel across oceans to perform for this great nation is a tremendous honor.”

English isn’t just a standout on the mat. His mother, Petryce has a rule that if you’re going to play sports you can’t make any C’s. Jaquan has responded by having a 3.61 gpa.

“School comes first,” said English. “If wrestling doesn’t get me to college I know that I have academics to back me up.”

English described his wrestling style as “unorthodox.” He said that the key to his success is “to never wrestle the same match twice.”

The trip to Australia will cost the English family $5,000. If you would like to make a donation towards his trip click here.
