Former Gators see potential fit with Jaguars

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – All 32 NFL teams were represented at the Florida Gators pro day on Monday morning. Playing in the NFL has been childhood dream of most if not all of the prospects who were trying to prove their worth in front of scouts.

There’s an uncertainty that comes with not knowing where or when you will be drafted, but a couple of the former Gators see a potential fit in Jacksonville.

“If I could stay in Florida period that would be lovely,” said defensive lineman Alex McCalister. “But going to Jacksonville would be great, they’ve got a beautiful organization. I’d have Dante [Fowler] out there to help me out my first year. It would be a good look for me.”

After his junior year Jonathan Bullard was told to stay in school by NFL scouts. He returned for his senior season and now he’s expected to be drafted from as high as late in the first round too early in the second round.

“I try not to think about it but I’d be lying if I said I don’t,” said Bullard. “I don’t want to mess up the trend [of Florida defensive lineman being taken in the first round]. I don’t want to be that guy.”

Vernon Hargreaves is expected to be available when the Jaguars pick at No. 5 and he’s already got the right mindset to succeed as a cornerback in the NFL.

“You’ve got to have a strong mind and a short memory,” said Hargreaves. “You’re going to get beat at the next level and you have to go back and make another play. So I think I’m preparing the right way now and have a strong mindset and forget things quick and move on.”
