TaxSlayer Bowl to be played on New Year's Eve

Game at EverBank Field will be lead-in to playoff semifinal games

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Next season's TaxSlayer Bowl will be played on New Year's Eve at EverBank Field, officials announced Tuesday.

The 72nd annual bowl game will be played at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

The TaxSlayer Bowl will be the lead-in to the College Football Playoff semifinal games that will be played that afternoon, Gator Bowl Sports chairman David Boree announced.

The TaxSlayer Bowl will feature a team from the Southeastern Conference that will serve as the anchor team and will face an opponent from the Big Ten Conference or the Atlantic Coast Conference, which also includes the University of Notre Dame.

Last year’s TaxSlayer Bowl featured the University of Georgia from the SEC and Penn State University from the Big Ten. The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Nittany Lions 24-17.
