JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Ribault High School is celebrating its national championship girls basketball team with a pep rally Thursday.

The Lady Trojans knocked off top-seeded Riverdale Baptist 75-49 on Saturday at Madison Square Garden in order to claim the school’s first-ever Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Girls National Championship.

The school is inviting the media to visit at noon, then stay for a 1:30 p.m. pep rally that will include a presentation of colors, a drum line performance and an awards presentation.

Mayor Lenny Curry tweeted Wednesday that the city will celebrate the Lady Trojans at 3 p.m. Tuesday downtown and will "paint the town blue."

An online petition is also asking the White House to honor the Ribault High School Lady Trojans basketball team for winning a national championship.

The petition, posted Monday on the White House web site, had 75 signatures as of Wednesday afternoon. The goal is to get 100,000 signatures by May 4.
